From Couch to Confidence: Starting Your Running Journey

I wasn’t always a runner.
In fact, I was far from it. I was overweight, sluggish, and honestly, stuck in a cycle of doubt and frustration. I used to look at runners and think, “That’s not me. I don’t belong in that world.” The idea of jogging even a few minutes without stopping seemed impossible. I didn’t have the gear, the fitness, or the confidence. And I certainly didn’t have any belief that I could one day feel at home in my body.
But that’s exactly why I’m here telling you this... because I get it.
I wasn’t born into this lifestyle. I built it brick by brick. I started with short walks that felt hard. Then I added slow jogs around the park that felt clunky and awkward. Some days I wanted to quit. And honestly, some days I did. But I kept coming back, even if it was just for five minutes. Because something deep down told me I deserved better than the limits I was placing on myself.
Slowly… the scale started shifting. Not just physically, but mentally. I was gaining MOMENTUM. I began feeling proud of effort, not perfection. And over time, running became more than exercise — it became freedom and clarity.
Now I’m in a place I never imagined I’d be, confident, strong, coaching others to break through their own barriers. But I’ll never forget where it started: on the couch, doubting myself.
So if you’re there now. Wondering if this is for you. Let me tell you clearly: it is.
You don’t need to be fit. You don’t need the perfect shoes or the fancy watch. You just need a willingness to try. To move. To believe that change is possible, even if it’s slow at first.
MFT Performance was created to give you what we wish we had: someone who genuinely understands, supports, and walks (or runs) beside you every step of the way.
You're not alone. You're not broken. You're just at the start of something really powerful.
